Troon serves the port of Larne which is outside the city of Belfast, Services between these ports are operated by P&O Irish Sea ferries. The ferries run several times each day but is a seasonal crossing so generally only operates during the months of April to September. Crossing takes 109 minutes.
Troon is situated about eight miles from Ayre, also near to Glasgow Prestwick international airport. The town is famous for its golf course which host to the Open Golf Championship which is held every seven years.
The port within the town has played a very important part of the development of the town.
