Main channel route Crossing the English channel is somewhat a ‘rites of passage’ these days for your average British person!  It just goes to show you how quick and cheap it is. 
From leaving British shores you can be in France in under an hour!

Dover to Calais:  The oldest and most traditional route bringing you to one historic part of the world right to another!  Dover still operates the most ferries to Calais with up to 50 crossings a day!  Which takes the duration of 1 ¼ hours.  As well as Calais you can also sail to Boulogne (55 minutes) and Dunker (1 ¾ hours) from Dover.

Portsmouth to Caen and Cherbourg:  Portsmouth sees some 3.4 million passengers pass through there dock every year.  What attracts people to Portsmouth is its ease of access and interconnectivity through roads and railways.  Brittany Ferries schedule 2 crossings a day to Cherbourg (3 hours) and 4 a day to Caen (3 ¾ hours).

New Haven to Dieppe:  Right next to the party town of Brighton, New Haven Port may be small but that’s not to say it doesn’t deal with many passengers crossing the channel.  Transmanche Ferries sail 4 times a day to Dieppe from New Haven taking 3 ¼ hours.  So next time your in Brighton on a night out why not turn that night into a weekend and visit Dieppe!  Either that or send your mate on it while he’s asleep!
