Sail to sunnier Climes!

ferry operatorsWhen people think of travelling to Spain, a ferry isn't usually there first inclination of mode of transport, but with increasingly frequent routes it is becoming more and more popular.  And it's easy to see why; you get to see things you wouldn't normally in a plane and you get top quality treatment along the way!

Portsmouth and Plymouth operate ferries to Bilbao and Santander, repectively.  7 crossings weekly to Bilbao are in operation at Portsmouth with P & O, and 5 to Santander from Plymouth with Brittany Ferries.

Many of these operators offer many more routes through Europe - to Ireland, France or indeed the North sea and more! They leave from many great UK ports and offer great offers on sailing times and prices!

These trips can be pricey, as you can imagine, and long.  The average time to Santander or Bilbao is around 30 hours – but as mentioned, you are traveling in luxury not in a dingy!  P & O to Bilbao is substantially dearer than Brittany Ferries to Santander, so be sure to have a look around first, if you do get quoted a high price by one ferry don't think all ferries to that country will be the same price.  In truth they fluctuate quite a bit!

Culture...

Holidays on a ferryIf you've been to other well visited places in Spain before like Madrid or Barcelona, you might think you've seen what Spain is about.
But that could not be further from the truth.

Traditionally known as 'The Spains', because of all the different automonous groups in the country, in every different area of Spain you can discover a new culture, language, culture and history.

These ferries to the Cantabaria and Basque regions are overflowing with sights, culture and things to do!
