Dieppe has been a coastal town which fast developed after the conquest of England in 1066. The port was later developed when trade between Britain and France improved for fishing and commerce.

The town was rebuilt, in 1694 after the invasion of an Anglo-Dutch fleet, in an classic style finished with white brick.
