There are two Ferry operators from Dover that sail to Calais; P & O and Sea France.
On weekend trips on the two ferries from Dover to Calais, the price difference isn't a lot. For a particular weekend, taking the cheapest option - leaving Dover on Friday and returning on Sunday/Monday - a P & O ticket will cost you: £56 and the same trip with Sea France is £53. That’s just to give you an idea. For a week return, the difference could be a bit more.
The top ticket i.e. including a club pass; for P & O is £98 and Sea France £85. Sea France do 15 trips from Dover to Calais a day and vice versa whilst P & O have 25 daily crossings.
Both sets of fleets that make the trip are have enough utilities and amenities to cater for surely everyone and make it in roughly the same time (1 hour and ten minutes) so the choice of who to go with can come down to the toss of a coin.
P&O do have a longer standing reputation and have built themselves up to become Britain’s largest Ferry company. But to completely disregard Sea France would be foolish, they offer just as a good service.
Below is a sample timetable for P&O for their daily routes from Dover to Calais. The times do vary, not by much - but when it’s the matter of messing a holiday then it can be very important! Also, on some days it is important to note that not all sailings leave.

Prices; P&O tends to be dearer that Sea France, although the old adage is true "you get what you pay for" - as P&O are one of the oldest and best established fleets going. But if you're just needing to get to Calais then Sea Ferries should suit you fine.
For a return of a couple of days to a week P&O will cost you around £85-90 and Sea France around £50-60.
